The Exchange Restaurant at the Hilton Hotel was awash with neon yesterday as Radio City’s Cash for Kids, in association with Carolyn Hughes PR, hosted an 80’s themed charity afternoon tea.

100 ladies, and a few brave gentlemen, were given glow sticks and neon flashing rings as they  enjoyed cocktails on arrival with a throwback twist including ‘Sex on the Beach’ served with the obligatory paper parasols (Vodka, Peach Schnapps and orange juice) and ‘Blue Lagoons’ (Vodka, Lemondade, Peach Schnapps and Blue Bols) served with glassier cherries.

The theme continued in the restaurant with  a retro audio visual compilation on the giant screen, produced specifically for the occasion by Al Stirling at Audio Ninja, as the ladies tucked into an afternoon tea.

of yesteryear.  The traditional treat included Scotch eggs, French Fancies, Battenburg cake, traditional scones with strawberries and cream and a selection of sandwiches includes prawn cocktail, egg mayonnaise and cucumber sandwiches, along with a mini old English gift bag containing chocolate treats.

The fundraising event was hosted by Radio City’s Claire Simmo, and entertainment was provided by the superb ‘All things 80’s’ rock band trio who wowed the guests with a stunning 80’s set list including Tina Tina’s ‘Proud Mary’, Spandau Ballet’s ‘Gold’ and ‘Time of your life’ by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes.  Dancers from the Dolphin Dance Studio showcased some 80’s moves on the dance floor before Radio City’s Simon Ross and Charlie C played some ‘old classics’ from the DJ booth.

The event tied in with the launch of Hilton Hotels ‘Fresh Friday’s’ music nights which are due to start at the end of July.

The afternoon tea, which was supported by Barclays and Barclaycard, raised £13,000 and Radio City’s Charity Manager, Carole Clare said “We are always looking for fresh ideas to make our fundraising activity fun and enjoyable.

Our 80’s themed afternoon tea has proved to be a winner with our guests today, who have had great fun enjoying a fantastic ‘throw back Thursday’, whilst raising a fantastic sum of money for Cash for Kids”
