St Helens Theatre Royal To Host A Fantastic Line Up Of Entertainment For 2017
St Helens Theatre Royal is certainly looking forward to a very happy new year and will be serving up a sensational season of entertainment for 2017!
The Theatre on Corporation Street has launched its fantastic new season brochure outlining another superb programme of shows with something for everyone – from live music concerts and world class tribute acts to hilarious comedy, brilliant ballet and superb pantos! Here’s sneak preview of some of this year’s highlights…
The season begins with a weekend of music starting with The Illegal Eagles, often acclaimed as the World’s Number One Eagles tribute, on Friday 3rd February. Paying tribute to the UKs favourite girl band on Saturday 4th February, The Little Mix Experience hits the stage for a night filled with pop tunes guaranteed to have you dancing in the aisles.
Fantastic tribute acts continue throughout the season with something to suit all musical tastes. The Legends of America Country Tribute Show promise a night of toe tapping classics on Friday 10th February followed by a tribute to the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll on Saturday 11th February in Vision of Elvis. On Saturday 4th March catch a tribute to pop legend Michael Jackson in King of Pop – The Legend Continues. The UKs’ number one Rock ‘n’ Roll variety performance That’ll be the Day takes you on a journey of sensational hits from the 50s through to the 70s on Friday 10th March. Get a taste of the swinging 60s on Saturday 18th March with a tribute to a local legend in Cilla and the Shades of the 60s.
The month of May brings more tribute acts starting with Patsy Cline and Friends on Thursday 4th May. The award-winning Let’s Hang On – The Music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons celebrates the music of one of pops’ most successful bands on Saturday 13th May and Totally Tina pays tribute to the Queen of Rock on Friday 19th May. Direct from the West End and following a sold-out UK tour The Simon and Garfunkel Story 50th Anniversary Tour comes to St Helens on Saturday 20th May.
Don’t miss The Johnny Cash Roadshow on Friday 9th June, the only tribute endorsed by the Cash family and The King is Back on Thursday, 14th September, internationally renowned as one, if not the best Elvis tributes in the world today. The award-winning The Carpenters Story celebrates the music of one of the most successful pop duos in music history, Richard and Karen Carpenter on Saturday, 16th September. Grab your platforms and flares for a journey back in time to when ABBA dominated the charts and ruled the airwaves! Thank ABBA For The Music is a two-hour theatre spectacular that captures all of the magic and excitement of one of pop history’s most successful bands on Friday, 6th October.
There’s more amazing live music on offer throughout the season. Rock ‘n’ Roll sensations Showaddywaddy bring all their hits from their extensive career to the stage on Friday 3rd March. Country music fans are in for a treat this with two of Ireland’s top country stars making their way to St Helens. Michael English and his Band in Concert hit the stage on Tuesday 25th April. Robert Mizzell and the Country Kings bring their unique sound on Friday 23rd June. Plus, four of Ireland’s top country stars will perform in the Stars of the Irish Country Show on Wednesday, 4th October.
As well as great music, St Helens Theatre Royal has lined up a wide variety of family entertainment. Cirque du Hilarious Comedy Explosion guarantees laughs for the whole family on Sunday 26th February when the superstars of slapstick take to the stage. American Wrestling provides an all action family spectacular on Saturday 11thMarch while Jurassic Adventures promises to be the most exciting family show since time began on Friday 24th March.
Football fans can get to know the real man behind the legendary Alan Ball in the stage play Ball of Fire 2017 on Thursday, 3rd August.
Regal Entertainments Ltd return with their winning pantomime formula to keep the whole family entertained bringing no less than three spectacular panto productions to the St Helens stage this year! The fun starts this Easter with a tale as old as time Beauty and the Beast. A star-studded cast including Amy Thompson of Channel 5’s Milkshake and Big Brother legend Nikki Grahame will provide Easter fun for the whole family from Saturday 1st – Sunday 23rd April. The most spellbinding story of all time comes alive on the stage once again with the return of Sleeping Beauty on Saturday 21st – Sunday 29th Oct. Then, it is guaranteed to be a white Christmas with festive panto Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs from Saturday, 2nd December 2017 – Sunday, 7th January 2018.
If you fancy a giggle, join The Grumbleweeds Laughter Show on Sunday 21st May for an evening jam packed with laugh-out-loud comedy routines, great singers, theatrical magic and fun for all the family. Seriously Dead on Sunday 12th February is a brand-new comedy starring Benidorm’s, Chrissy Rock. The laugh-out-loud musical comedy combines a terrific musical score and cleverly penned, side splittingly funny jokes. All-round funny man Jimmy Carr is back with his Greatest Hits on Saturday, 9th September and Regal Entertainments present their hilarious comedy play The Salon from Tuesday, 21st to Saturday, 25th November.
Looking for some outside the box entertainment? Look no further than Puppetry of the Penis on Saturday 27th May. This unique show has been performed in over 35 countries and in over 6 languages and comes to St Helens Theatre Royal as part of a 2017 tour.
Strictly Come Dancing fans are in for a treat on Saturday 10th June as Somewhere in Time: An Audience with Ian Waite and Natalie Lowe struts in to town to wow audiences with a newly choreographed show featuring all their favourite Ballroom and Latin dances. Dance lovers will be delighted to learn that the exquisite Vienna Festival Ballet will return to St Helens to present two beautiful new ballets – Cinderella on Sunday 5th March and Sleeping Beauty on Sunday 8th October.
Just in time for Halloween, The Haunting will chill you to the bone on Saturday, 7th October.
St Helens Theatre Royal will also stage some magical musicals – the award-winning Phoenix Youth Theatre present The Phantom of The Opera from Tuesday, 19th to Thursday, 21st September, Pilkington Musical Theatre Company present Sister Act – from Thursday, 12th to Saturday, 14th October and the high octane musical riot that is The Chicago Blues Brothers – Back in Black Tour comes to the Theatre on Saturday, 4th November.
