Whats On In Liverpool
Hit Musical ‘ The Last Five Years ‘ Is Back At The Epstein Theatre
The Epstein Theatre is proud to present its first big in-house production for summer 2017 – The Last Five Years. The theatre on Hanover Street has joined forces with Liverpool theatre company Tread Productions, to stage the smash hit Broadway musical. The award-winning musical was staged at The Epstein Theatre in June 2013 receiving rave reviews across the board from theatregoers and critics alike and now it is back by popular demand for June 2017.
Directed by Iestyn Arwel, the musical stars real life couple Graham Tudor and Helen Noble who run Tread, the theatre company which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.
A West End leading actor, Graham’s credits include playing the title role of Joseph in Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Mamma Mia and Grease. Meanwhile, his partner, Helen is most recognised as Abby Daviesfrom Channel 4’s Hollyoaks.
Written by Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning composer, Jason Robert Brown (Songs for a New World, Parade), The Last Five Years premiered at Chicago’s Northlight Theatre in 2001 and was then produced Off-Broadway in March 2002 before touring the world to critical acclaim. It has since been adapted into a film starring Anna Kendrick and is quickly becoming a beloved classic.
This heart-breaking and hilarious musical tells the story of two New Yorkers, Cathy and Jamie, who fall in and out of love over the course of five years together.
Cathy is a vivacious struggling actress, and Jamie a hotshot up-and-coming novelist. In this clever way of story-telling, Cathy’s story begins at the end of their relationship, and Jamie’s starts at the beginning.
Watch their relationship from tragic end to hopeful beginning and hopeful beginning to tragic end, as Jamie and Cathy share their separate tale of their last five years together.
The Last Five Years takes audiences on the emotional rollercoaster through the heart-rending relationship of leading characters Cathy and Jamie whist chronicling the story from opposite ends of the relationship; Jamie’s story moving forward from the beginning of the relationship when all the hope and excitement still lies ahead, and Cathy’s heart-breaking opening at the tragic end of the relationship where all hope is lost, her story moving in reverse through turbulent times back to the start of the relationship.
Its exceptionally powerful and emotional musical numbers will have audiences laughing and crying as Graham and Helen deliver truly exquisite performances.
Helen Noble said: “Tread celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and we thought us both performing in this show would be a great way to help celebrate our 10 years of success with Tread!”
Theatre manager, Rebekah Pichilingi, added: “We are delighted to collaborate with Tread Productions and are confident that our audiences will fall in love with this beautiful, funny musical.
“Two brilliant performers in a smash hit Broadway musical is a recipe for success and with the likes of La La Land set to dominate the Oscars and box office, 2017 is set to be the year of the musical so be sure not to miss The Last Five Years at the Epstein Theatre.”
