Your Housing Group, one of the UK’s largest housing associations is supporting Emotions, a creative project that provides access to free training to young people from 14 – 25 years in Merseyside.

Your Housing Group, that has 5,000 properties in Merseyside, is funding the Emotions Project Open Day and Business Fair on Sunday 25 January at The Olympia on West Derby Road in Liverpool.  Hundreds of young people are expected to attend the day and take part in the free dance, drama and singing workshops. They will also get the chance to find out about training opportunities and get career, housing and youth services advice at the business fair element of the open day.

At the end of the day of activity, more than 100 youngsters will be selected to take part in the Emotions project which will give them access to free tuition in many creative skills including drama, dance, singing, poetry, photography and fashion.  The project will culminate in a final performance at the Liverpool Empire Theatre.

Ben Osu, community projects officer at Your Housing Group said: “It’s fantastic to be able to sponsor the Emotions Project by sponsoring the Open Day this year, and we will continue to support the project as it develops. It is a year-long opportunity for people from Merseyside to access free training in many creative industries and rediscover passions and talents.  We want to encourage as many of our residents to attend the Open Day as possible. We’ll also talk to them about how to apply for one of our bursaries which can help cover their travel expenses and other costs, so they can afford to participate in the training throughout the year.”

The year-long project is run by Liverpool-based performing arts and youth training company, MD Productions.  The dance super-group, who were three times semi-finalist on the Britain’s Got Talent TV show and have performed for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Michael Jackson, enable young people express themselves and develop their confidence and talents through participating in the arts.

The Emotions Project is spearheaded by MD Productions’ creative director Miguel Doforo. Commenting on the youth initiative,  he said:  “The Emotions Project is such an important opportunity for local people to express themselves and realise their own potential through creativity. Absolutely anyone of any age, any ability and anywhere in Merseyside can get involved. We are so grateful for the support of local organisations including Your Housing Group who has not only pledged sponsorship, but will also offer valuable housing advice to those who participate.”

Local businesses are encouraged to get involved through sponsorship, mentoring participants through interactive workshops and providing internships or career advice.
